Training Manual

All the Cluster level coordinators were given 6 day refresher training on community health – personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, anatomy & physiology, reproductive health, nutrition, human organs & diseases, cancer, HIV/ AIDS prevention. Two Homoeopathy doctors and an external Health educator facilitated the sessions.
In eight villages, 180 adolescent girls were given training in basic health using a two day training module.

SHG members training on primary health

All group members undergo the ten modules of health training on primary health. Each session is of 2 to 3 hours duration. The training enhances the health knowledge of the community

Homoeopathy Treatment

CRUSADE started a three day a week homoeopathy clinic at its Sholavaram centre. As there was demand for the clinic in Minjur, the facility was extended to one day a week clinic at Minjur. A Qualified Homoeopath is managing both clinics. She is also involved in training Cluster coordinators. Between October and March 2008, 465 new cases attended the clinic. In addition, there were 382 repeat cases.
Predominant health problems of women who attended the clinic were menstrual irregularities, pelvic inflammatory diseases, gastric ulcer, migraine & sinusitis.
Problems of Adolescent girls attended the clinic include menstrual problems, polycystic ovarian disease, Myopia, Hypothyroidism, etc
Respiratory infections, worms, nutritional disorders & scabies are problems of children.
Bronchial Asthma, warts, Haemorhoids, Lipoma, corns and sciatica are common among male and females.

Adolescent girls/ boys training

Adolescent girls in the age group of 13-20 are provided basic health-care training using two day modules.In eight villages, 180 adolescent girls were given training in basic health using a two day training module. There has been good feedback on the impact of this training. Similar to girls, boys of the same age group was also offered training , but there was not much of response.

CRUSADE regularly organizes special health camps for eye, dental & diabetes problems. Emergency treatment at village level is provided for epidemics. For example, CRUSADE organized treatment camps when Chikungunya disease spread in the project areas.

Camps

Dental & Diabetes
In collaboration with two Chennai based Dental colleges, CRUSADE organized five Dental and Diabetes camps in project villages. Totally, 466 persons having dental problems presented themselves in the camps (289 women) and 308 were treated and given advice for various ailments which includes removal of decayed tooth filling, etc. It is noted that 55 of those who came to the camp were having diabetes. Those diagnosed of having abnormal sugar were advised strict diet and further treatment.

Eye

Two eye camps were organized in two project villages. In all 140 attended the camps (98 women). Of those having cataract, 9 were referred to Sanaka Nethralaya Eye hospital for surgery. 32 have been advised to wear glasses. CRUSADE helped 10 of the poor to get glasses at free of cost.
