Women in Enterprises

Group members were given orientation to enable them to take up an economic activity. CRUSADE conducted a study in select Panchayats to assess the proportion of women members choose to work part time or full time and earn a living. It emerged from the study that 10% members employed full time and 65% are self employed or work part time.

Several group members have utilized the bank loans and group credit to start an economic activity or expand the one they are already involved.

Case Study:    Jayanthi Group

The activities planned for achieving the objective of promoting entrepreneurship quality of women members include:

1. Orient members on choice of economic activity
2. Entrepreneurship Development training
3. Specific skill training
4. Provision of credit
5. Market linkages

A simple study was conducted collecting information from 161 women trained in Tailoring and embroidery. Of these 59 were self employed, most of them earning between Rs 500 and 2000 per month. Some 15 were employed outside. 83 are still to earn any income from the training. However, some of them have applied for availing loan for purchase of sewing machines for self employment.
